The most common problem with having a terrace or balcony is leakage resulting from improper protection against weather conditions . The effects of moisture and water penetrating through the layers that were supposed to constitute a barrier may become visible already in the first winter, and repairing such errors is often expensive and time-consuming.

The surfaces of balconies and terraces are especially exposed to moisture, as well as temperatures depending on the prevailing season. One of the ways of waterproofing the terrace or balcony is a system based on 2-component resins, which will allow them to be used for many years and meet all difficulties. The combination of polychocker membranes called Neoproof Polyurea R and Neodur FT Elastic gives a structure with three characteristic features that were mentioned above.

Neoproof Polyurea R – durability of the entire system

Neoproof Polyurea R is a resin that is applied in two or three layers using Neotextile NP (we paste the mesh using the "wet on wet" method, paste the mesh on the first layer and paint it immediately, then apply the final layer after 24 hours). The membrane is highly resistant to damage and has very good waterproof properties . Neoproof Polyurea R is based on aliphatic resins, which creates coatings resistant to UV radiation. A big advantage of this product is the fact that rain can fall on the coating just 1 hour after application , so the product can be used in uncertain weather. As previously mentioned, it has very good waterproof properties, but how does it react to constant temperature changes? Well, it responds very well.

Polyurea is a highly flexible , which means it does not crack and adapts to the prevailing temperature . Based on the tests performed, the tensile strength of the coating was determined. In order for it to break, the coating would have to be extended by as much as 4 times, which is impossible in the case of application on relatively even surfaces. Minimum temperature during application 5°C. Neoproof Polyurea R creates homogeneous coatings which, compared to other waterproofing methods, e.g. tiles, create an insurmountable barrier to moisture or water. In the case of tiles, moisture can penetrate through the joints.

Neodur FT Elastic – functionality

Additional closing with a topcoat of the coating obtained from Neoproof Polyurea R increases the functionality of the entire system. Neodur FT Elastic is applied as the final layer to make it easier to keep the coating clean when waterproofing terraces or balconies. It is a perfect combination of mechanical resistance and waterproofing properties. It is made on the basis of a purely aliphatic resin containing UV filters , as a result of which the resin becomes resistant to sunlight and changing weather conditions. It provides high resistance to abrasion and mechanical loads , which is important when using the resin in places exposed to traffic, such as balconies or terraces.

The combination of these products ensures a durable and functional surface finish for terraces and balconies. We also cannot forget about the aesthetic appearance of the coating.

Thanks to this, the risk of slipping on a terrace finished with this system is very low.

Application of the entire terrace and balcony waterproofing system: stages

Substrate preparation

Before starting the application of the entire system, each type of substrate must be properly prepared and cleaned. The surface should be clean, dry and free from dust, oil, grease and loose old coatings. The polyurea insulation system is suitable for protecting terraces and balconies with various substrates. The most common surfaces that require renovation and additional protection are: tiles and concrete floors.

Concrete substrates are best cleaned with Sulfanol-A , and tiles with Emulsol RN-1 . The Sulfanol A product is used undiluted. To clean the surface, it is spread over the entire surface and washed off thoroughly with water 10-15 minutes Emulsol RN-1 works in a similar way to Sulfanol A, but before application, the preparation is diluted with water to create a 2-3% solution. The surface should then be rinsed with water and left to dry thoroughly so as not to trap moisture under subsequent layers.

An additional procedure for preparing the floor is filling the gaps . We recommend filling any unevenness in the substrate with the quick-drying polyaspartic putty Neodur FT Putty . We apply the product after using an appropriate primer. In the case of Neopox Primer WS , we first apply the primer and then, after waiting the required 24 hours , the quick-drying mass for filling the gaps, Neodur FT Putty. can be repainted with the Neoproof Polyurea R waterproofing membrane just 2 hours

Neoproof Polyurea R application

After appropriate preparation of the substrate (filling gaps, priming), you can proceed to the next stage - applying two (or three with mesh with Neotextile NP reinforcing nonwoven fabric) layers of Neoproof Polyurea R polyurea. Neoproof Polyurea R is a two-component product, which means that it must be mixed together before application. two components in the appropriate proportion (13 parts by weight of component A constitute 6 parts by weight of component B). After mixing the ingredients, the resulting mixture should be used within the time specified in the technical data sheet. As time passes during application, the mixture may thicken noticeably.

Theoretical consumption for two layers is 1.5 kg/m 2 without reinforcing nonwoven fabric or 2.5-3 kg/m 2 with mesh. Neoproof Polyurea R should not be applied in high humidity conditions or when such conditions are expected during the curing of the coating. The minimum temperature that should prevail during application is 5°C, but we always recommend not to apply the product at extreme temperatures. After 24 hours or less (the higher the temperature during application, the shorter the drying time), another layer of the product can be applied. The same applies to applying the finishing coat, 24 hours after applying the last layer of Neoproof Polyurea R, it can be closed with the first topcoat of Neodur FT Elastic. Neoproof Polyurea R is applied with a roller, brush or airless spray.

Neodur FT Elastic application

Neodur FT Elastic is a two-component polyurea resin intended for waterproofing terraces and balconies. Before application, combine components A and B in the appropriate proportion by weight (3A: 2.5B). Neodur FT Elastic is applied in two layers, for which the total theoretical consumption is 0.6 kg/m 2 . The minimum temperature during application is 5°C, and the time interval between the first and second layers should be 4 hours at 25°C. The material is applied immediately after mixing the ingredients, by pouring the mixture on the floor and spreading it evenly with a velvet roller or brush. Due to the very quick setting time, prepare an amount of the product that can be used without exceeding the shelf life of the mixture. The coating is ready for use after 5 hours until the second layer is applied. Full hardening of the coating takes 24 hours.

Decorative effect

Our offer includes a paint imitating granite, Troken Stone . It allows you to achieve an aesthetic and attractive finish on your terrace or balcony. This product allows you to optically mask imperfections. The big advantage is its versatility, Troken Stone can be applied on walls and floors, indoors and outdoors. Quite low consumption (0.125-0.25 kg/m 2 ) makes it an economical solution. Troken Stone granite paint is applied in one layer with a system gun on the last (dried) layer of Neoproof Polyurea R. In the case of terraces or floors, use Floortop 1K .

Another option for obtaining an interesting decorative effect are decorative flakes . The last layer of Neoproof Polyurea R (while still wet!) can be sprinkled with floor flakes and then protected with two layers of flexible Floortop 1K .
