Let's assume that we have already selected a flooring system suitable for our needs and we start applying it. Typically, in most systems, the first step is to apply the primer. This is a very important stage that has a direct impact on the final appearance and functionality of the floor coating. If, after priming the concrete floor, the next day we find matt "cakes", it means that the priming needs to be repeated because the substrate is very absorbent. Below are photos of chipboards, which are very absorbent, so it was certain that such a situation would occur.

The substrate is not properly primed and we see dull spots.

Properly primed substrate with uniform gloss.

Consequences of improperly priming a concrete floor:

  • higher consumption of topcoat paint
  • uneven coverage
  • uneven gloss/matte effect
  • in the case of epoxy screeds, this may result in the appearance of more bubbles and the coating will be uneven

That's why we always say that proper preparation of the substrate is half the success!
