Properly selected rollers can significantly facilitate and speed up our work. Depending on the paint used, you need to pay attention to whether the roller is resistant to solvents or only suitable for water-based paints. How to properly select and prepare a roller before painting? We have created a guide to help you learn how to do it.

We offer appropriate rollers for the application of all our products:

Nylon roller

The roller is made of very high-strength synthetic fiber, resistant to solvents . It has longer bristles, thanks to which it leaves a thicker layer, but also the texture of an orange peel.

Examples of products that can be applied:
Neopox Special , Neodur Special , Neodur Fast Track SF , Neoproof Polyurea and other epoxy and polyurethane floor paints, as well as solvent-based anti-corrosion paints.

Velor roller

Examples of products that can be applied:
Magnetic board paint , eco-Stolmal

Preparing the roller before painting:

Rollers with long bristles tend to lose fibers during painting. To reduce fiber loss, you can prepare the roller using one of the following methods:

  • The day before, wash the roller under warm running water. Before painting, the roller must, of course, dry (this method is definitely the best).
  • “Roller depilation” – cover the roller with painter's tape and tear it off . Repeat the operation several times, especially at the ends of the roller. When plucking, loose hairs remaining after the roller production process are collected.
  • If we paint with solvent-based paint, the roller can be washed with a solvent (of course appropriate for our paint)
  • Paint splashing is the biggest nightmare of painters, the largest amount of paint collects at the ends of the roller. Some rollers are specially beveled (rounded) at the ends so that they do not splash and leave unsightly streaks. If the roller you purchased is not chamfered, trimming the fibers at both ends of the roller .

How to clean rollers after painting?

  1. After painting with water-based paints , it is best to wash the rollers in warm water with soap or dishwashing liquid . The clean roller must be rinsed under running water and left to dry.
  2. In the case of solvent-based paints , dirty rollers can be placed on a sheet of paper or old newspaper and used to remove any remaining paint. After initial cleaning, place the roller in a bucket of solvent and wash it. Solvents irritate hands, so it is worth wearing gloves . Rinse the roller clean of paint residues in hot water with soap and dry it. Store the rolling pin wrapped in foil . Unfortunately, with some two-component paints, it may turn out that the roller will have to be thrown away because the paint will harden on it and cannot be washed off.
