Properly selected rollers can significantly facilitate and speed up our work. Depending on the paint used, you need to pay attention to whether the roller is resistant to solvents or only suitable for water-based paints. How to properly select and prepare a roller before painting? We have created a guide to help you learn how to do it.

We offer suitable rollers for applying all our products:

Preparing the roller before painting:

Long-napped rollers tend to shed fibers during painting. To minimize fiber shedding you can prepare the roller using one of the following methods:

  • The day before , wash the roller under warm, running water. Of course, the roller must be dry before painting (this method is definitely the best).
  • "Roller hair removal" – wrap the roller with masking tape and remove it . Repeat this process several times, especially at the ends of the roller. This removal collects loose hairs left over from the roller manufacturing process.
  • If you are painting with a solvent-based paint, you can wash the roller with a solvent (of course, one that is suitable for your paint)
  • Paint splattering is a painter's biggest nightmare; most paint accumulates at the ends of the roller. Some rollers are specially beveled (rounded) at the ends to prevent splattering and leave unsightly streaks. If your roller isn't beveled, trimming the fibers at both ends will help distribute .

How to clean rollers after painting?

  1. After painting with water-based paints , it's best to wash the rollers in warm water with soap or dishwashing liquid . The clean roller should then be rinsed under running water and left to dry.
  2. For solvent-based paints , dirty rollers can be placed on a piece of paper or old newspaper to remove any remaining paint. After initial cleaning, place the roller in a bucket of solvent and wash it. Solvents are irritating to hands, so it's best to wear gloves . Rinse the roller after removing any remaining paint in hot, soapy water and dry it. Store the roller wrapped in plastic . Unfortunately, with some two-component paints, the roller may need to be thrown away because the paint will harden and become impossible to wash off.
