Polyurethane resin for the balcony
Polyurethane resin for the balcony is a modern solution that provides effective waterproofing and aesthetic surface finish. Thanks to its unique properties, it becomes an increasingly popular choice among the owners of apartments and houses.
What is polyurethane resin?
Polyurethane resin is a synthetic polymer material, which after applying creates a durable and flexible coating. She is valued for its excellent mechanical and chemical properties, which makes it an ideal material for outside use, such as balconies or terraces.
Properties of polyurethane resin
- Flexibility : adapts to substrate movements, minimizing the risk of cracks.
- Abrasion resistance : withstands intensive use and mechanical loads.
- Waterproofing : creates an impermeable barrier for water, protecting the balcony structure from moisture.
- Chemical resistance : is resistant to many chemicals, which ensures long -term durability.
- Resistance to UV rays : can be subjected to high sunlight exposure without yellowing or chalk. Thanks to this, the visual effect, as well as the physical properties of the coating itself, do not lose quality for years.
Differences between polyurethane and epoxy resin
Although both polyurethane and epoxy resins are popular surface finishing materials, they differ in several key features:
- Flexibility : polyurethane resins are more flexible, which makes them a better choice to surfaces exposed to movements and vibrations such as balconies.
- Resistance to UV radiation : polyurethane resins show much more resistance to UV radiation, thanks to which they do not turn yellow and do not lose their properties under the influence of the sun.
- Application : epoxy resins are often used indoors, while polyurethane is preferred outside due to their resistance to weather conditions. The exception are epoxy soils such as Neopox® PRmer WS or Neopox® Primer Ay , which is applied for damp substrates. They can be used outside, because they are then covered, among others Polyurethane resin coatings.
Advantages of polyurethane resin to the balcony
High flexibility and resistance to cracks
Thanks to its flexibility, polyurethane resin can compensate for small substrate movements, which minimizes the risk of cracks and surface damage. An example of such a resin is Floortop 1K .
Hydro -insulation and protection against moisture
By creating a tight coating, polyurethane resin effectively protects the balcony against water penetration, preventing moisture -related problems such as mold or corrosion.
Resistance to UV radiation and weather conditions
Polyurethane resin such as Neodur® Special is resistant to UV radiation, rain, snow and variable temperatures, which ensures many years of durability and aesthetic appearance of the surface. In addition, dyed according to the RAL palette allows you to obtain a specific visual effect of permanent for years.
How to prepare a balcony for polyurethane resin application?
Preparation of the substrate is crucial to ensure the durability and effectiveness of the polyurethane resin coating. Here are the steps to take:
1. Assessment of the condition of the substrate
Check that the balcony surface is stable, clean and dry. It is necessary to remove all loose fragments, fats, oils and other impurities. In the case of oil stains, it is worth using a concrete degreasing agent - Sulfanol A.
2. Repair of damage
It is necessary to fill the cracks and cavities with appropriate repair materials to get a smooth and even surface. For this you can use ready -made repair masses based on epoxy such as EPOXOL® Putty , EPOXOL® LIQUID or a quick -drying Neodur® FT Putty . Alternatively, you can prepare a resinous repair mass yourself by adding to the ground, e.g. EPOXOL® Primer SF-P small quartz sand.
3. Grinding
Before applying resin, it is worth sanding the floor to ensure better adhesion of the resin to the ground. Depending on the thickness of the entire applied system, this quality of grinding should be selected. This is determined on the CSP scale.
4. Priming
The next step is to apply the right soil that will increase the resin's adhesion and provide better binding to the ground. In the case of Polish climatic conditions, it is difficult to bring concrete outside to the frequently required dryness 4%. That is why epoxy soil is used for moist concrete Neopox® Primer WS . In the case of terraces located on Earth, which do not have waterproofing from the ground, Neopox® Primer Ay , which cuts off the moisture pulling capillaries.
How to apply polyurethane resin to the balcony? Step by step
The process of application of polyurethane resin requires precision and appropriate tools. Here are the steps to take:
1. Preparation of tools and materials
All necessary tools, such as rollers, brushes, mixers and the right amount of chosen polyurethane resin, should be collected. The litter box, painting foil or additional buckets can also be useful to pour the resin.
2. Mixing resin
Mix the resin according to the manufacturer's instructions to get a uniform consistency. It is recommended to transfer the resin into a clean container after initial mixing so that the hardener on the walls is evenly distributed in the base.
3. Application of the first layer
After applying the soil and leveling the ground, the first layer of polyurethane resin is applied. The resin layer is spread evenly on the surface of the balcony, taking care of covering all areas.
4. Drying time
The first layer must dry in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions before applying the next layer. This will allow the coating to harden properly and create adequate adhesion for further elements of the entire balcony system.
5. Application of subsequent layers
Depending on the requirements, subsequent layers of resin are applied, ensuring the right drying time between them.
Offer of products and systems
Solvent-free epoxy primer intended for use on concrete in the absence or incorrectly performed moisture insulation.
Polyurethane resin resistant to UV radiation and other atmospheric factors. Provides high mechanical and chemical resistance.
Solvent-free, epoxy primer strengthening cement substrates. For internal and external use.
Epoxy resin for use as a primer or construction resin. A solvent-free product for priming walls and floors and creating the so-called epoxy screeds.
Putty for filling small holes or gaps on larger surfaces. It has greater plasticity than Epoxol Putty. Depending on the mixing ratio, three degrees of mass elasticity can be obtained.
Two-component putty for a wide range of applications. Depending on the mixing ratio of the ingredients, you can obtain a flexible, hard or very hard mass. Recommended for metal, concrete, wood and ceramics. Also for car and yacht repairs.
Mass for filling holes, gluing and repairing floors and walls. It allows sanding and repainting within 2 hours after application.

- NOTE: WATER-BASED PRODUCT. Choose temperature-controlled shipping to receive the product on the declared date, regardless of the weather. Standard shipments may be held due to temperatures below 5°C along the delivery route.
For cleaning concrete, roof tiles and metal before applying paint coatings. Requires rinsing with water.
What are the care recommendations?
keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_upTo maintain durability and aesthetics of the polyurethane resin coating, you should regularly clean the surface with water with a mild detergent. The use of aggressive chemicals that can damage the protective layer is most often forbidden.
Is polyurethane resin resistant to high temperatures?
keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_upYes, polyurethane resin is resistant to high temperatures and variable weather conditions. Thanks to this properties, it does not lose its properties under the influence of intensive sunlight or frosts.
What polyurethane resin for the balcony is recommended?
keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_upOne of the recommended products are Neodur® Special and Floortop 1K. These are high -quality polyurethane coatings with excellent mechanical and waterproofing resistance, ideal for use on the balcony.
Epoxy resin or polyurethane for the balcony - which one to choose?
keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_upPolyurethane resin is a better choice for a balcony, because it is more flexible and resistant to UV radiation than epoxy resin. The epoxy works mainly inside buildings, where it is not exposed to weather conditions or as a soil for polyurethane coatings.
