What is roof paint and why is it worth using?

Roof paint is a specialized product designed for painting roofing. Its main goal is not only to improve the aesthetics of the building, but also to provide additional protection against harmful external factors, and in some cases to create a waterproofing coating . The use of roof paint allows you to extend the life of the roofing and increasing its resistance to weather conditions.

What functions do roof paint perform?

When is it worth deciding to paint the roof?

Roof painting is recommended in the following situations:

Types of roof paints

The choice of the right paint on the roof depends on the type of covering and the expected effects. Here are the most popular types of paints:

Acrylic paints

Polyurea paints 

Very durable and resistant to mechanical and chemical damage. Used on all kinds of roofs, from private to industrial. These are two -component paints that require greater mindfulness during application, from the types of paints described above. These products consist of a base and hardener, thanks to which the painted paint surface obtains protection against weathering factors, UV rays and leakage up to 25 years. Examples of such paints are Neoproof® Polyurea R , as well as Neoproof® Polyurea C1 .

How to prepare a roof for painting?

Preparation of the roof for painting is crucial for obtaining a durable and aesthetic coating. Here are the steps to take:

Roof condition assessment 

Before starting work, the roofing state should be thoroughly assessed, identifying any damage, corrosion or space requiring repair. 

Surface cleaning 

You should remove all impurities, such as moss, leaves, dust or old, flaky painting coatings. This can be done with a pressure washer or wire brush. The recommended remedy at the purification stage is the fungicidal preparation of the mycelium , which will not only allow the neutralization of developed mold, but also protects against its development in the future. It is also worth degreasing it at the roof washing stage, because the exhaust gases set on the roofs contain a large amount of fatty substances. They, in turn, reduce the adhesion of any paint. Recommended by a degreasing agent, sulfanol .

Damage repair

All cracks, holes or other damage should be repaired before painting. In the case of rust, it is recommended to mechanically remove and use an appropriate anti -corrosion agent. Alternatively, you can use a rust converter, which without mechanical removal transforms it into a harmless form for the starting material. Neodur® MetalForce is used for this .

Primension of the surface

It is worth applying the soil to a cleaned and dry surface that will improve the paint's grip and provide better protection of the substrate. Depending on the chosen paint on the roof, as well as ground grounds may differ from each other. Revinex will be the ground for roofs, roof tiles or concrete . How to paint the roof correctly?

To achieve a lasting and aesthetic effect, you must follow a few rules when painting the roof.

Choosing the right tools and techniques

Depending on the type of roof and paint, you can use a brush, roller or hydrodynamic spray. The spray allows for even and quick covering of large surfaces, while the brush and roller are tools with greater availability and easier to use.

Applying to the paint step by step

In order to paint properly, after priming the ground, go to the material preparation stage. If a single -component product has been chosen, which is most often hydrogenous, it should be read if it is necessary to dilute it. Before starting the application, the paint must be mixed, because during storage the sedimentation of heavier molecules may occur, which makes the thick part of the paint settled at the bottom of the container, and the rarer is on the surface. In the case of two -component products such as Neoproof® Polyurea R , it is necessary to combine two ingredients, i.e. a base and hardener. After mixing the mixture with you, remember that it has a certain time to wear, which depends, among others from the prevailing temperature.
Then apply the paint using previously selected tools, usually in two layers, at appropriate intervals. It is worth watching over these intervals to ensure adequate adhesion for the next layer of paint on the roof.

Drying and hardening time

After applying the last layer of paint, the coating must usually wait 7 days to gain full properties both in terms of mechanical, chemical and waterproofing resistance. After this time, you can start using it, enter it or install such installations as photovoltaic.

Paint painted roof care and maintenance

For roof paint to fulfill its task for many years, proper care and regular maintenance are needed. The impurities such as moss, leaves or dust should be systematically removed, as they can affect the durability of the paint coating. It is recommended to review the roof at least once a year and after each extreme storm to detect any damage and prevent them from deepening. If rust appears, it is worth using a specialized paint for rust roof, which will effectively protect metal elements.
