Priming concrete floors
Why is it worth ensuring proper priming of concrete floors?
Appropriate priming of the substrate for resin floors has a significant impact on the quality, durability and appearance of the surface coating. By using the appropriate primer, you will reduce the absorbency of the substrate and strengthen the surface.
Our offer includes solvent-based, water-based and solvent-free primers. In this category you will also find primers for unusual substrates, such as tiles or fresh/damp concrete.
Do you want to prime concrete yourself? Are you wondering how to properly prepare the substrate?

Offer of products and systems
Solvent-based epoxy primer for epoxy paints, polyurethane resins. For use on floors and walls where high mechanical and chemical resistance is required.
Systemic primer for use under the Neodur Fast Track polyurea/polyaspartic flooring resin. Can be applied at low temperatures, even down to -10°C. It allows the surface to be applied just 3 hours after applying the primer (at +25°C).
Solvent-free, epoxy primer strengthening cement substrates. For internal and external use.
Epoxy resin for use as a primer or construction resin. A solvent-free product for priming walls and floors and creating the so-called epoxy screeds.
- NOTE: WATER-BASED PRODUCT. Choose temperature-controlled shipping to receive the product on the declared date, regardless of the weather. Standard shipments may be held due to temperatures below 5°C along the delivery route.
Epoxy, water-soluble primer improving the adhesion of very smooth substrates. For any type of paint.
Hybrid primer (polyurethane-polyurea) enabling the application of a topcoat just 3 hours after application. Provides high mechanical and chemical resistance.
- NOTE: WATER-BASED PRODUCT. Choose temperature-controlled shipping to receive the product on the declared date, regardless of the weather. Standard shipments may be held due to temperatures below 5°C along the delivery route.
Primer for preparing surfaces for painting with waterproof systems. Ensures long-term durability and tightness of the surface.
- NOTE: WATER-BASED PRODUCT. Choose temperature-controlled shipping to receive the product on the declared date, regardless of the weather. Standard shipments may be held due to temperatures below 5°C along the delivery route.
Highly hard and abrasion-resistant epoxy primer for use on floors and walls. For stabilizing old floors and as a primer for sealants.
Solvent-free primer for polyurethane and epoxy systems. Perfect for use under RO5500 epoxy paint.
- NOTE: WATER-BASED PRODUCT. Choose temperature-controlled shipping to receive the product on the declared date, regardless of the weather. Standard shipments may be held due to temperatures below 5°C along the delivery route.
Primer for use on various types of substrates: concrete, plaster, plaster, bricks, wood and wood-like materials, plasterboards. After application, it creates a transparent layer. For use indoors and outdoors under water-based epoxy paints.
What about concrete paint?
keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_upWhen choosing a primer for concrete paint, we must pay attention to two factors: 1. Compatibility of the primer with the selected paint/flooring resin. The technical data sheet of each flooring resin contains information on what primers can be used with it. As a rule, epoxy primer can be used under any flooring resin (epoxy, polyurethane, polyurea) and is usually a safe choice. It is best to choose system primers from the same manufacturer, because then we can be sure that nothing will happen (assuming correct application). 2. Condition, quality and type of the substrate to be primed. We can choose from various types of primers that can be selected for various substrate problems. While a dry, good-quality concrete substrate is not a problem, fresh concrete or concrete exposed to capillary action is a completely different story. Below we present several resin primers and the situations in which they work best. Epoxol Primer SF-P - standard, solvent-free epoxy primer. We use it on dry, seasoned concrete substrates, without any problems with moisture. Epoxol Primer - as above, but the product is solvent-based. It is suitable for strengthening absorbent, unstable substrates. Neopox Primer WS - solvent-free epoxy primer for wet and/or fresh concrete (minimum 14 days). Refers to moisture that has entered the concrete from above, for example rainfall or frequent washing of the surface, inability to dry. Neopox Primer AY - solvent-free epoxy primer that cuts off capillary rising moisture, e.g. in the case of missing or damaged waterproofing from underneath. Neodur Fast Track PR - quick-drying polyurea primer, recommended where time is of the essence. Also for use at low temperatures (minimum +5°C)
What kind of primer for wet ground?
keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_upIn the case of a wet substrate, we must distinguish situations depending on which side the moisture appeared from. Moisture coming from the outside, from above - this is moisture, e.g. from rainfall or resulting from frequent washing of the floor and the impossibility of drying it. In such a case, we use Neopox Primer WS. Capillary rising moisture from the bottom of the floor - moisture coming from the ground on which the floor is located when there is no waterproofing or it is damaged. In such a case, we use Neopox Primer AY.
Is priming necessary?
keyboard_arrow_down keyboard_arrow_upWith some exceptions (e.g. Neopox Special applied to good quality concrete "without problems"), priming the surface for flooring resins is necessary. The substrate should be primed for several reasons: - closing the pores, which is especially important in the case of self-leveling resin screeds - equalizing absorbency, which translates into greater efficiency of the surface resin and its uniform appearance - better durability and adhesion of the entire system
