Let's assume that we have already selected the floor system suitable for our demand and we proceed to apply it. Usually, in most systems, the first step is the application of the ground. This is a very important stage, which has a direct impact on the final appearance and functionality of the floor coating. If after priming the concrete floor for the next day we find matte "pies", it means that priming must be repeated, because the ground is very absorbent. Below are the photos of chipboard, which are very absorbent so it was certain that this situation would occur.

The substrate is not properly primed and we see dull spots.

Properly primed substrate with uniform gloss.

Consequences of improperly priming a concrete floor:

  • higher consumption of topcoat paint
  • uneven coverage
  • uneven gloss/matte effect
  • in the case of epoxy screeds, this may result in the appearance of more bubbles and the coating will be uneven

That's why we always say that proper preparation of the substrate is half the success!
