Floors in public buildings are subject to high requirements regarding durability, functionality and hygiene. How to obtain a durable, aesthetic coating that is easy to keep clean?

The world is moving forward and poses increasing challenges to both institutional and individual investors. Every now and then, new problems arise that need to be answered. The requirements regarding durability, functionality, hygiene and aesthetics of building systems are increasing. This is particularly important in industries such as the food industry, pharmacy, services, health care and education. More and more public buildings are being built where building materials with high decorative values are used, but above all, investors still focus on functionality and this is the feature that characterizes resin floors.

Functionality of resin coatings

What does the above-mentioned functionality actually mean in the case of resin coatings? Each of us likes to have a clean, aesthetic floor in our apartment or workplace, but there are facilities where a hygiene regime is particularly required. Such places include:

hospitals,
clinics,
doctors offices,
diagnostic laboratories,
halls and warehouses in the food and pharmaceutical industries,
pharmacies.

In these places, decorative values become secondary, and what is most desired is ease of cleaning.

Resin floors instead of tiles

Tiles are a fairly common floor protection in the above-mentioned facilities. At first glance, this seems to be a good solution, but remember that tiles form a joint floor with joints and these are the ones that cause the most problems. While the tiles themselves are easy to keep clean, the most problematic places are the joints, which due to their nature (they are narrow and porous) require more attention when cleaning, which means we waste more time and cleaning agents on cleaning. In shops and hotels we often encounter situations where the tiles are clean and well-kept, but the joints are full of dirt and impurities. Epoxy resins

Epoxy resins create a uniform coating on the entire surface without any joints. Their biggest advantage is that they are easy to keep clean and remove germs. Due to the fact that the coating is homogeneous, we need less time to clean the surface and we also use less cleaning agents. In addition, in the case of jointless coatings, contaminants spread less easily because they have nothing to stick to - due to the lack of joints. Importantly, resin coatings are characterized by increased chemical resistance, so they are fully resistant to the harmful effects of aggressive chemicals.

Advantages of resin floors available in our offer

In the case of tiles, the whole process is quite time-consuming because they have to be cut down to the bare floor, then the surface leveled and the tiles applied again. Below is a brief description of resin flooring systems that are able to facilitate maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness in places with increased hygiene regime.

Neopox SF Plus epoxy resin

Two-component epoxy resin with excellent mechanical and chemical (the chemical resistance table is included in the product technical data sheet). Aesthetic, glossy finish. Easy to clean, seamless coating. Low-odor product (pleasant for the user at the time of application). The high mechanical resistance of the coating results from the possibility of applying the epoxy in thick layers - the thickness of one layer is as much as 190 microns dry when applied with a roller (two are required). Full hardening of the coating takes 7 days. Lower price per m2 compared to tiles.

Neopox SF Plus is applied to a previously properly primed substrate:

Epoxol Primer SF – concrete substrate, seasoned (min. 30 days), dry
Neopox Primer WS – damp concrete (e.g. from frequent cleaning) or fresh concrete (min. 14 days)
Super binder 3333 – non-absorbent concrete, tiles

Neopox SF Plus is certified by the National Institute of Hygiene

Epoxol Floor epoxy resin

Two-component self-leveling screed, 1-3 mm thick. It creates an aesthetic finish of the floor, protecting it against mechanical and chemical factors (the chemical resistance table is included in the product's technical data sheet). The hardened coating is smooth, shiny, and creates the so-called "mirror". Seamless floor, easy to keep clean. Faster application of the system compared to ceramic tiles. An ideal solution for protecting concrete floors with minor imperfections (thanks to the thickness that can be achieved, it is able to cover them). Solvent-free product with low odor. Full hardening of the coating takes 7 days.

The floor should be primed with Epoxol Primer SF . Neopox Primer WS can be used . In the case of non-absorbent substrates, e.g. glossy polished concrete, Super Binder 3333 .

Epoxol Floor is certified by the National Institute of Hygiene.

Neodur Fast Track SF polyurea resin

Two-component coating based on polyurea resin. An ideal solution for quick projects, the entire system (primer + two layers) is applied with a roller in about 9 hours (+25°C), and the floor is ready for use the next day. The coating can also be applied in one thick layer with a trowel, which reduces the application time by an additional 4 hours. Solvent-free product (easy to apply). High chemical resistance (chemical resistance table in the product technical data sheet) and mechanical resistance. Seamless coating with an aesthetic, glossy finish.

Neodur Fast Track SF is applied to the concrete substrate Neodur Primer SF (also odorless). Neopox Primer WS can be used , and in the case of non-absorbent substrates, e.g. smooth troweled concrete or tiles - Super Binder 3333. However, remember that Neopox Primer WS and Super Binder 3333 are primers epoxy, which extends the application of the system by 24 hours .

Resin floors, thanks to their seamless surface, are an ideal solution in places where high hygiene requirements are met, and ease of keeping clean and removing dirt are features worth their weight in gold. For this reason, investors are increasingly choosing to use resin coatings instead of ceramic tiles in hospitals, clinics or food industry halls.
