Floors in public buildings are subject to high requirements regarding durability, functionality and hygiene. How to obtain a durable, aesthetic coating that is easy to keep clean?

The world is moving forward, posing ever greater challenges for both institutional and individual investors. New problems constantly arise, requiring solutions. Demands for durability, functionality, hygiene, and aesthetics in building systems are rising. This is particularly important in industries such as the food industry, pharmaceuticals, services, healthcare, and education. More and more public buildings are being built, utilizing building materials with high decorative value, but above all, investors continue to prioritize functionality, and this is precisely the characteristic of resin floors.

Functionality of resin coatings

What does the aforementioned functionality actually mean for resin coatings? Everyone likes to have a clean, aesthetically pleasing floor in their home or workplace, but there are certain facilities where a hygiene regime is particularly important. These include:

hospitals,
clinics,
medical offices,
diagnostic laboratories,
halls and warehouses in the food and pharmaceutical industries,
pharmacies.

In these places, decorative values are less important and what is most desired is ease of cleaning.

Resin floors instead of tiles

Tiles are a fairly common flooring solution in the aforementioned facilities. At first glance, this seems like a good solution, but remember that tiles create a jointed floor, which contains grout lines, and these are the most problematic areas. While the tiles themselves are easy to clean, the most problematic areas are the joints, which, due to their narrow and porous nature, require more attention to cleaning, resulting in more time and cleaning products being wasted. In shops and hotels, it's common to encounter situations where the tiles are clean and well-maintained, but the grout lines are full of dirt and debris. In places requiring high levels of hygiene, this is unacceptable. Therefore, resin floors , or seamless coatings, are becoming increasingly popular in these types of establishments.

Epoxy resins

Epoxy resins create a uniform coating across the entire surface without any joints. Their greatest advantage is their ease of cleaning and germ removal. Because the coating is uniform, we need less time to clean the surface and use fewer cleaning agents. Furthermore, seamless coatings reduce the spread of contaminants because they have nothing to adhere to – due to the lack of joints. Importantly, resin coatings are characterized by increased chemical resistance, making them fully resistant to the harmful effects of aggressive chemicals.

Advantages of resin floors available in our offer

With tiles, the entire process is quite time-consuming, as the tiles must be removed down to the bare floor, the substrate must be leveled, and the tiles reapplied. Below is a brief description of resin flooring systems that can help maintain the highest standards of cleanliness in places with a high hygiene regime.

Neopox SF Plus epoxy resin

A two-component epoxy resin with excellent mechanical and chemical (a chemical resistance table can be found in the product data sheet). It offers an aesthetic, glossy finish. The seamless coating is easy to clean. It is low-odor (pleasant to the user during application). The coating's high mechanical resistance results from the ability to apply the epoxy in thick layers – a single layer can be as thick as 190 microns dry when applied with a roller (two layers are required). The coating fully cures in 7 days. It is also cheaper per square meter than tiles.

Neopox SF Plus is applied to a previously properly primed substrate:

Epoxol Primer SF – concrete substrate, seasoned (min. 30 days), dry
Neopox Primer WS – damp concrete (e.g. from frequent cleaning) or fresh (min. 14 days)
Super Binder 3333 – non-absorbent concrete, tiles

Neopox SF Plus resin is PZH certified.

Epoxol Floor epoxy resin

A two-component, self-leveling screed, 1-3mm thick. It creates an aesthetically pleasing finish, protecting the floor from mechanical and chemical factors (a chemical resistance table is included in the product data sheet). The cured coating is smooth, glossy, and creates a "mirror" effect. The floor is seamless and easy to clean. The system is faster to apply than ceramic tiles. It's an ideal solution for protecting concrete floors with minor imperfections (thanks to its achievable thickness, it can cover them). This solvent-free product has low odor nuisance. The coating fully cures in 7 days.

The floor should be primed with Epoxol Primer SF Neopox Primer WS can be used . For non-absorbent substrates, e.g., glossy polished concrete, use Super Spoiwo 3333 .

Epoxol Floor is PZH certified.

Neodur Fast Track SF polyurea resin

A two-component coating based on polyurea resin. Ideal for quick projects, the entire system (primer + two coats) is applied by roller in approximately 9 hours (+25°C), and the floor is ready for use the next day. The coating can also be applied in a single, thick layer by trowel, reducing application time by an additional 4 hours. The product is solvent-free (easy to apply). High chemical (chemical resistance table in the product data sheet) and mechanical resistance. A seamless coating with an aesthetic, glossy finish.

Neodur Fast Track SF is applied to a concrete substrate Neodur Primer SF (also odorless). If the concrete is damp or fresh (minimum 14 days old), Neopox Primer WS , and for non-absorbent substrates, e.g., smooth-troweled concrete or tiles, Super Spoiwo 3333 can be used. However, remember that Neopox Primer WS and Super Spoiwo 3333 are epoxy primers, which extends the system application time by 24 hours .

Resin floors, thanks to their seamless surface, are an ideal solution for areas where high hygiene standards are required, and ease of cleaning and dirt removal are essential. For this reason, investors are increasingly choosing resin coatings instead of ceramic tiles in hospitals, clinics, and food industry halls.
