Polyurethane paint

What is polyurethane paint?

Polyurethane paint is an extremely durable and damage resistant solution used in various industries. Thanks to its properties, it works great on surfaces exposed to intensive use, weather conditions or chemicals. It is distinguished by excellent adhesion to various materials, such as metal, concrete or wood, which makes it versatile and widely used in construction, industry and automotive industry.

Composition and properties of polyurethane paints

Polyurethane paints are two -component, which means that they consist of a base and hardener. After mixing them, a chemical reaction occurs, which gives the coating exceptional hardness and resistance. The key properties of polyurethane paints are:

  • High mechanical resistance - protects the surface against abrasion and impacts.
  • Resistance to chemicals - works great in places exposed to oils, fuels, detergents, as well as some acids and bases.
  • Resistance to UV radiation - does not turn yellow and does not lose color under the influence of the sun.
  • Moisture resistance - ideal for use outside and in rooms with high humidity.
  • Excellent adhesion - it can be applied to metal, concrete, wood and other materials after applying appropriate primers.

Main applications of polyurethane paints

Polyurethane paint is used in many industries. Here are its most common applications:

  • Construction - painting concrete floors, facades and roofs.
  • Automotive - securing the body of vehicles and rims against damage.
  • Industry - covering machines and devices requiring a resistant coating.
  • Furniture and wood - painting wooden elements.
  • Yachts and boats - protection of hulls against water and sea salt.

Advantages of using polyurethane paint

Polyurethane paint is very popular due to its advantages, which include:

  • Long -term surface protection - does not require frequent renewal.
  • Resistance to harsh weather conditions - ideal for external use, thanks to full resistance to UV rays, rain, frost, as well as acid rainfall.
  • A wide range of colors - the ability to match the color to individual needs, thanks to coloring to each color from the RAL palette.
  • The ease of application - available in various forms, depending on the application. It can be applied with a roller, brush or shower.

What surfaces can you paint with polyurethane paint?

Polyurethane paint has versatile use and can be covered with:

  • Metal - protects against corrosion and mechanical damage. Most often, polyurethane paints are used as soils, primers or anti -corrosion enamels. An example would be Krypton Proline Silver TC , Krypton Proline Pu Al Primer or Telpur S210 .
  • Concrete - creates a durable protective coating on floors and walls. When using the appropriate soil, they can be applied for dry, wet concrete, or after proper strengthening with epoxy soil. Recommended soils are EPOXOL® PRIMER , EPOXOL® PRIMER SF-P , Neopox® Primer WS depending on the humidity and quality of the substrate. Neodur® Special or Troken Floor Pur WB-C is a polyurethane paint for painting concrete .
  • Wood - gives aesthetic appearance and increases moisture resistance. In the case of colorless protection, you can use polyurethane varnish from the Neodur® Varnish . However, to protect wood in color, the recommended product is Neodur® Special. It is worth remembering, however, that these polyurethane paints are only suitable for hard types of wood.
  • Papa -polyurethane paint with waterproofing properties, such as Neoproof® PU W -40 or N Eoproof® PU Fast -30, adheres perfectly to bituminous substrates (roofing felt) after proper primer. Used on the roofs, it protects it from 10 to even 20 years, at this time reducing the roof temperature and rooms located directly under it by up to several degrees.
  • Plastics - some types of polyurethane paints adhere well to polyester. Most often, solvent polyurethane paints such as Neodur® Special or Neodur® Pool , which adhere perfectly to substrates made of polyester.

How to prepare a surface for painting with polyurethane paint?

Preparation of the surface is a key step that ensures the durability of the coating. This process covers several stages:

1. Purification of the surface

It is necessary to remove any dirt, dust, fat and old paint coatings that adhere poorly. In the case of metal, it is worth using a degreaser and washed the concrete thoroughly. If the concrete substrate is oiled, it is also worth degreasing them. Sulfanol A or Emulsol is the recommended agent for concrete and metal . If a waterproofing polyurethane paint, e.g. on a pope, is applied, then the use of a fungicide called a mycerthop to clean the fawmer.

2. Grinding and supplementing cavities

In the case of uneven surfaces or covered with old paint, it should be sanded to increase the adhesion of the new coating. Each time before applying polyurethane paint on concrete, it is worth sanding the surface to increase the absorbency of the substrate. If concrete or bituminous, such as roofing felt, have defects, it is necessary to supplement them.

In the case of concrete substrates, epoxy repair masses are used, such as EPOPXOL® Putty , EPOXOL® Liquid , EPOXOL® Primer SF-P mixed with fine quartz sand or a polychococcal mass Neodur® FT Putty . Papular substrates, in turn, often have various types of bubbles that testify to moisture closed below the surface. Then it is recommended to cut them and supplement with a flexible repair mass, e.g. Jointex® .

3. Priming

Some surfaces, especially metal, concrete and bituminous, require the use of a suitable foundation that will improve the adhesion of polyurethane paint. In the case of anti -corrosion protection, soil protecting against corrosion, such as Neopox® Primer 815 , Neotex® Metal Primer or Telpox P100 .

In the case of concrete substrates, the soils used are:

  • EPOXOL® PRIMER - a solvent epoxy soil that penetrates the pores of concrete while strengthening it. Recommended for dry quality substrates.
  • EPOPXOL® PRIMER SF-P -ENTIREPLEMBLE EPOXIDE CLOSE CLOSING ADDITY. In addition, it can be mixed with quartz sand creating so -called Construction resin, thanks to which the ground is easily grunted, but also complements the defects.
  • Neopox® Primer WS - non -release epoxy soil for moisture substrates. It can be used at very high surface humidity <90%, while at the appropriate thickness it can be used as a vapor barrier.

For bituminous substrates, such as Papa, it is recommended to use Revinex® .

How to apply polyurethane paint?

The process of application of polyurethane paint depends on the type of surface and the selected method. It can be applied:

  • Roller or brush - a good solution for smaller surfaces and details.
  • Pneumatic spray - allows for even coverage of large surfaces.
