The quality of the substrate for resin application has a significant impact on the durability, performance, and final appearance of the resin flooring. The best substrate is concrete, which should be sound, have a compressive strength of at least 25 MPa, and a pull-off test result of at least 1.5 MPa. Various types of screed or anhydrite screeds are also common substrates. Flooring resins can also be applied to these substrates, but you must ensure they are of good quality and sufficient hardness. Poor-quality substrates can be strengthened by "soaking" them with a solvent-based epoxy primer (e.g., Epoxol Primer ), although it is difficult to predict the product's consumption.
Resin floors can be cleaned with commonly available floor cleaning agents. If you choose industrial cleaning agents, choose neutral ones, with a pH between 7 and 10. Avoid using agents containing water-soluble salts or high concentrations of alkalis or acids. A popular method is to clean resin floors with an ammonia solution (concentration approximately 3%). It's best to use soft sponge or cloth mops for cleaning. Before using any new cleaning agent, it's best to test it on a small, inconspicuous area.
Polyurethane flooring is not harmful to health. Polyurethane flooring can be found in hospitals and schools – where maintaining a non-toxic environment is crucial. Using polyurethane resin as a flooring material can even have health benefits. Highly flexible polyurethane flooring is available on the market, making walking on it easy on the joints. Additionally, some polyurethane flooring has antistatic properties, making life easier for allergy sufferers – dust does not adhere to the floor and it is easy to keep clean.
