What is priming a wall for paint?

Priming is a step prior to painting walls. Primers have many uses during construction. Applying the appropriate substance ensures reinforcement, evens out absorption, and prepares the surface for subsequent coats. Applying primer is a crucial element of finishing work.

The most important parameters to pay attention to when choosing a preparation are the type of substrate on which it will be applied, the humidity and temperature of the room, and the individual characteristics of the finishing material.

Types of paint primers used

Depending on the wall material, different types of primers are used:

Before applying plaster, it's essential to use a suitable primer. It's best to use deep-penetrating primers that will penetrate the substrate, strengthen it, and ensure adequate absorbency.

Before applying paint, the wall surface must be properly primed. Then, remember to allow sufficient time before painting. Choosing the right primer is not easy and depends on the condition of the substrate. If the walls are in good condition, a reinforcing primer is usually sufficient, but if their condition leaves much to be desired, it's worth opting for a deep-penetrating primer.

In what situations is the use of soil necessary?

Priming walls is especially important when:

• wallpaper or paint has been removed from them,
• in the case of painting new plasters and finishing coats,
• have an irregular structure,
• have visible mechanical damage,
• are located in rooms with high humidity,
• corrections were made on their surface (e.g. plastering),
• there are visible dirt that cannot be removed with water,
• the ground is unstable, dusty and requires reinforcement.
