Epoxy primers can usually be applied by any method: brush, roller or spray. Before painting, it is best to check the technical data sheet of a given product, which lists the application methods and the appropriate dilution for them.
This depends on the specific product. Water-based epoxy primers are diluted with tap water. For solvent-based products, use dedicated thinners, preferably from the same manufacturer. Information about the system solvent can be found in the technical data sheet of the given epoxy primer. We do not recommend using universal solvents because it may result in the coating not hardening or wrinkling.
Epoxy paints consist of two components - a base and a hardener. These are the so-called chemically cured coatings, i.e. they dry through a chemical reaction of two components. These ingredients must be combined in the appropriate proportion (weight or volume), otherwise the paint will not dry and will remain sticky. Once the ingredients are combined, they should be used within no longer than the shelf life of the mixture. After this time, the paint is unsuitable for use. That is why it is so important to prepare a portion of the product that we will definitely be able to use. Some paints, after combining the ingredients, must be left for a few minutes for initial binding, this is the so-called “induction time”. Epoxy paints can usually be painted by any method: brush, roller or spray.
Epoxy paint is usually used to cover structures exposed to chemically aggressive environments. For example, epoxy primers are the first layers when painting structures such as bridges. They will also work well when painting fences located next to busy roads. Epoxy paints are not resistant to UV radiation, therefore outdoors they should be covered with other topcoats, for example polyurethane.
